If at any point in the season you want to drop a player from your roster, you will put his name on the "Dropped Players" page. On this page, other teams will have the opportunity to pick up your dropped player. If they choose to pick up your player within 48 hours, and they take on his entire contract, you will have no penalty charged against your cap space. IF there is no pickup within the first 48 hours of being dropped, he becomes a FA that can be bid on and you will be charged for 50% of his salary from the year prior for the entire length of the contract you had him on. Or you may choose to pay the contract out right. for example decker was set to make 30 million total over 3 years, you can pay the 30 million now and there will be no contract with him in the following season
For example,
If Eric Decker is making $10 million from 2017-2020, and you drop him in 2017
you will pay
$10 million in 2017 $5 million in 2018 $2.5 Million in 2019 1.75$ Million in 2020
I repeat, If someone picks him up when you drop him and takes on his full contract, you will be charged nothing! Only if he makes it passed the first 48 hours, will there be any charge against you, so be mindful of the salaries players are making before you draft them. There will be a link to spotrac supplied above that states "spotrac." To find the accurate numbers, click the link above, pick the team you the player in question is under by clicking the "Salary by Year." Those are the numbers that will be used for each player.
